The Art of Appropriation
Originality and the Avant Garde (On Art and Repetition) is an exhibition about photography and duplication. Pulling from the Picture Collection of the Toronto Reference Library, Annie MacDonell articulates issues of origin and the untrustworthy nature of photography as a document. Beginning with the file folder marked “Reflections”, MacDonell appropriates the archives images ranging from advertising images to fine art prints.
